WWDC 2017

As you all may be well aware Apple recently hosted it’s 2017 Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2017) and many important and exciting announcements were made in the keynotes that followed from 5th June to 9th. As we said before, 2017 is a very good year for tech and Apple solidified that by announcing the reveal of its own ambitious all in one speaker the Apple HomePod.

If you have been following us for some time, you might have read a certain piece in which we estimated that Apple would soon shore up with an answer to Amazon Echo and Google Home as they were getting some serious competition in the speaker market. Having a bad product is one thing but having nothing to counter is something else. Luckily, Apple has now managed to shift the dynamic by announcing the HomePod.

The Apple HomePod announced at the WWDC 2017 put simply is the company’s answer to Amazon and Google and their speaker systems but in a surprising turn of events, the iOS makers also decided to go against Sonos Home Environment who are well known for their fantastic speaker systems. The HomePod has been made with every possible effort in the hope that it will simply bash the other contenders. Here we go into detail.

What makes it special?

The Apple HomePod stands 7 inches tall almost the size of a small Mac Pro. It will be available in two colours namely Black & White. The speaker comes with a mesh design on the outside. In the inside, the speaker consists of seven tweeters each with their own amplifier that will give completely pure distortion free sound along with the clear distinction of highs and lows. The HomePod is also equipped with an upward facing subwoofer that provides crystal clear and deep bass that will be sure to rock your eardrums.

The Apple HomePod has a built in A8 chip that contains the speakers very own Siri. The virtual assistant will now use a feature called the ‘HomePod’ that will use spatial awareness to tune itself and deploy sound according to the room the speaker is in. Another added feature called the ‘Musicologist’ will allow you to command the speaker Siri directly telling her what song to play and even asking her the specifics in a song. You’ll be able to ask questions like ‘What is the name of the lead vocal in this song’ or ‘What famous album was released on this day’ etc. Not only that but you will be able to control any smart home devices you might have and even get weather and news reports from the HomePod.

Apple has stated the price of the HomePod at $349 US Dollars. As mentioned before, the speaker will be available in Black & White. Apple will first ship the HomePod in December later this year to US, UK & Australia. International markets will follow suit in 2018. From then on, the possibilities are endless and entertaining.

The period from June to launch day gives Apple more time to focus on the speaker and make it more compatible and bug-free so that come launch day everything will be on spot.
