Oh yes, Nokia is back in play with the launch of four new phones at MWC 2017 in Barcelona. Finnish company HMD Global is now taking care of the manufacturing and distribution of the Nokia branded phones. All the new smartphones will now run on stock Android OS. Nokia 6 finally came out in an international variant along with the new phones Nokia 3 and Nokia 5. Going back to the future, Nokia 3310 was also launched which now looks more colorful and bright.
Owing to a huge success of Nokia 6 in the Chinese market, it is surely a positive move to introduce Nokia 6 to the global market. As per Nokia and HMD, most of the buyers in China were from the ‘next generation’, which indicates that they are the ones who have probably not used a Nokia phone ever.
The new Nokia phones feature a premium design and the overall look and feel is much like the older Lumia smartphones. Talking about the software front, Nokia has gone with the latest version of Android that is Nougat 7.1 and also assures the addition of Google Assistant in the coming time. According to HMD Global, the pure Android experience will feature a clutter-free UI and the phones will get security updates on a monthly basis.
Nokia 3310 is expected to have Bluetooth and also an app store. As per HMD plans, the phone will be available in Q2 this year at a price of €49(approximately Rs. 3,450). The battery is going to be super impressive with a talktime of 22 hours. And since the phone is such a basic one, you wouldn’t have Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook to spend the battery on. We might expect it to have WhatsApp though. Also, Nokia launched a new avatar of the old famous Snake game which can now also be accessed under the Games tab on the Facebook Messenger. The dual-SIM Nokia 3310 houses a 2 megapixel camera and a microSD card slot.
Moving on to the smartphones now, Nokia 6, which was a huge hit when put on sale on JD.com in China, was also launched at the MWC 2017. The new Nokia 6 and Nokia 6 Art Black Android smartphones have been priced at €229 (approximately Rs. 16,000) and €299 (approximately Rs.21,000).
The other two smartphones launched were Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 which would come at a price of €189 and €139 respectively. The new Nokia smartphones would run on Android Nougat and hence Google Assistant. The display of these phones would come with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection.
Rajiv Suri, CEO of Nokia also announced that all the Withings products would now come under Nokia umbrella. Also, Nokia Technologies is working towards connect health solutions, 5G and virtual reality.
