Asus CEO Jerry Shen on 22nd January announced the launch of Zenfone Zoom which is the world’s thinnest 3X optical zoom smartphone that they believe is going to encourage people for smartphone photography. The camera has been built focussing majorly on the camera and its performance.
ZenFone Zoom has a 3X zoom using a 10 element HOYA lens arrangement that gives an exceptional clarity and upto 12X magnification. The camera has been supported with Optical Image Stabilisation to elimination blurred shots. The smartphone comes with a2.5GHz Intel® Quad Core Atom™ processor Z3590, with 4GB of RAM. The company claims it to be the world’s thinnest Optical Zoom smartphone with 13 MP Pixel master rear camera that measures only 5mm at the edges. The 10 piece camera setup has been built by the experts at Hoya and 2 prismatic lenses have been configured to give a dual-prism periscope arrangement maximizing the incoming light to capture the perfect image. With such a good OIS system the photographers can also explore the long exposure shots option.
The company has taken the Zoom’s design inspiration from the professional DSLR cameras and has provided dedicated buttons for shooting and recording and zooming operations. The phone has been provided a unibody frame with a metallic finish and premium Black or Ceramic color leather on the rear of the phone. They have also provided a stylish safety strap for holding the device and avoiding any fall during shots taken at different angle. Along with that, the Corning Gorilla Glass 4 gives greater drop resistance and 2.5 times increased retained strength.
Like all the other predecessors the Zen UI Camera app offers a good control on the camera, the ASUS Super Resolution mode makes use of the frame fusion technology to create great High Resolution pictures by fusing 4 High Res images to create a single image of clarity that is 4X greater than a single. Be it a day or night the Zenfone can capture more detailed and less noisy pictures upto 52 MP. The camera also excels at the macro photography, by enabling close ups as near as 5cm to get you as close to the device as you would not be with your eyes.
Supported by 64 bit architecture the Intel’s Atom processor provides brilliant performance and a great efficiency to the guy empowered with Intel’s 22nm Silvermonth architecture along with this the Tri-Gate transistors in the Intel processor have 3X more surface area than the other planar transistors which enables flow of more electrons thereby increasing the computing performance. The 5.5 Inch 1920×1080 FULL HD IPS display offers 178 degree of viewing angles and a 403ppi pixel density to render highly detailed images complimenting the camera.

The device has been made available in India from 22nd January, 2016 on Flipkart and in February the device would be available on ASUS Exclusive stores at a price of Rs. 37, 999.
