Having been featured in Apple’s list of ‘Best of 2014’ apps, the very popular Instagram on Wednesday announced the crossing of 300 million monthly active users mark. After Facebook and Twitter, Instagram too would now show verified badges for popular brands and celebrities.
“We’re proud to announce that there are now more than 300 million Instagrammers,” stated Kevin Systrom, CEO of Instagram in a blog post. The app crossed the 200 million active users mark earlier this year in March. It is fascinating to note that Twitter currently has 248 million monthly active users. Kevin also introduced the addition of verified badges “for celebrities, athletes and brands, making it easier for you to connect with the authentic accounts you’re looking for.” These will be seen in the coming days.
Instagram has been working very actively in the removal of the spam accounts and will soon be deleting them forever so as to correct the follower counts. The admins of these accounts would be notified within the app itself. It was in last month that the Instagram update on iOS and Android brought in a revamped Explore page and the option to edit the caption and location of already posted images. The Explore page now has two tabs: People and Photos.
