MI 3, the first product from Xiaomi in India gave the company a head start that no product ever gave to its company. The response that Xiaomi and flipkart got for mi3 was something that flipkart had never seen before. With every new lot going out of stock in few seconds, looks like Xiaomi has found the perfect formula for success.

Following the footsteps of the last product, Xiaomi launches yet another device, Redmi 1s for Rs. 5,999, which is even lower than price mentioned at the time of announcement (RS. 6999). At the price of Rs. 5,999, Redmi 1S falls in the category currently dominated by Karbonn and Micromax.

On Questioning Hugo Barra, global Vice President of Xiaomi said:

“Word of mouth promotion is extremely important for us and especially so in a market like India, Which is why you won’t see any full page advertisements in the papers for Xiao MI’s products. We save that money and plough it back into the products which is what allows us to price them lower.”

For those using micro SIM cards already, Xiaomi Redmi 1S will be shipped with two micro-to-mini SIM adapters to make the job easier.

Xiaomi and Flipkart will follow the same Flash sale method for the Redmi 1S, in which users have to get themselves registered in advance to get a chance to buy the product. Considering the specification and the price, Redmi 1S becomes a very tempting product beating Motorola’s Moto E and other products from Indian Brands like Micromax & Spice.

Earlier in the year, Google had announced the Android one project , which involved launching basic Low-spec handsets in association with Indian brands like micromax for the purpose of technology penetration in the Rural area, but if Xiaomi can deliver this specification at this price, Google may soon have to put an axe on the their android one project.
