Panasonic p81.

After much of promotion, Panasonic finally launched its new flagship smartphone Panasonic P81. Panasonic does not as such pose a strong competition in smartphone market but we should not take them off as yet. “With the launch of the Panasonic P81, we have reached yet another milestone as this is the first model of the ‘P’ series featured with octa-core processor.” said Panaonic at launch. Panasonic P81 will be available in Black Leatherete back pannel (multi-colour back cover options also available) for a price of Rs. 18,990 (MRP – 19,990) starting from third week of May.

Under the hood,Panasonic P81 comes with a 5.5 inch (720×1280 pixels) IPS display which seems to be fairly good considering the price. For the hardware, Panasonic has provided with its first Media-tek octa-core processor (CPU) which is clocked at 1.7GHz with 1GB of RAM

In terms of storage, Panasonic has provided 8 GB of internal storage which can be expanded upto 32 GB with a microSD card. That’s a good addition as 8 GB is just not enough for most of us today plus the OS takes up some space as well.

Talking about the Camera, Panasonic P81 sports a 13 megapixel (f/2.2 aperture) rear-facing shooter with LED flash. Plus there is a 2MP front facing camera for selfies. All of this is powered by a 2500 mAh Battery which is expected to perform pretty well provided its an Octa-Core processor i.e. more cores , more battery efficiency. The 7.9 mm thick P81 also comes with dual SIM capabilty to manage your professional and personal life.

The phone runs on Android 4.2.2 (Jellybean) with Panasonic’s Play Life UI on top of it which includes  all the new multi-tasking features like multi play dual window operation, Pop-i-player which lets you multitask while watching videos and Gesture Play (Use onscreen gestures to perform various functions). But what’s disappointing is that it comes with Android 4.2.2 which is not the most outdated version of Android as yet but its not the latest as well. We really would have wished for Android 4.4 Kitkat as its lighter than Jellybean and would have run much better on P81 with the given hardware.

Apart from specifications, Panasonic is also providing freebies worth Rs. 9,900 such as a flip cover and a screen guard (worth Rs. 2000) , 6 month premium services subscription for Evernote worth Rs. 1800. Also, services like free entertainment download from Hungama for a month, India-today e-content and offers from Hot-n-Trendy space.
