Inspite of the critics going towards Galaxy S5, Samsung is doing pretty good with the sales(atleast in US). This is an interesting comparison- a report by iQmetrix concludes that Apple could not sell as much iPhone 5s in its launch weekend(September 20-22, 2013) as Samsung sold Galaxy S5 on its launch weekend(April 11-13, 2014).

Galaxy S5, in its launch period, constituted 23 percent and 18 percent of the total phones sold in US and Canada respectively. And if we look at the same for iPhone5s, the share was 18 percent and 13 percent respectively. Following is the break-down of Galaxy S5 sales cons for the launch weekend of April 11-13:

  • 41 percent- Southern US
  • 30 percent- Northeast
  • 23 percent- Midwest
  • 21 percent- West
  • 18 percent- Canada

The Galaxy S4 sales were still at peak even when the release of Galaxy S5 was round the corner. However, the sales of iPhone 5 dropped before the launch of iPhone 5s. A recent report has revealed that S5 contributes one percent to the total Android market. This is amazing.
