Amazon’s CEO Jeff Bezos announced that the Amazon Appstore has tripled in size to over 200,000 apps in the last one year. Latest numbers related to Amazon marketplace were also shared with the company’s shareholders highlighting the progress for the past year.
“The Amazon Appstore now serves customers in almost 200 countries,” Bezos wrote. “Selection has grown to include over 200,000 apps and games from top developers around the globe — nearly tripling in size over the past year.”
The increase in the ease for the developers to create apps is considered by Bezos as the main reason for the Appstore’s growth. Developer Select program was one of the incentives provided to developers for creating apps for the Amazon platform. Also, virtual currency in the form of Amazon Coins was introduced to make it easier for the users to make in-app purchases. It was also announced last week that customers buying Amazon’s new Fire TV set-top box would get 1,000 free Amazon coins.
