Samsung has just confirmed that all its major selling devices will be getting 4.4 update from Tuesday, while I have no clue as to when will the international (including India) versions of these devices get 4.4.

The devices include:

  • Galaxy S4
  • Galaxy S4 Mini
  • Galaxy S4 Active
  • Galaxy S4 Zoom
  • Galaxy Note 3
  • Galaxy Note 2
  • Galaxy S3
  • Galaxy S3 Mini
  • Galaxy Mega
  • Galaxy Light
  • Galaxy Note 8.0
  • Galaxy Tab 3
  • Galaxy Note 10.1

While Note 3 has already started receiving 4.4 in India and sprint network has already rolled out 4.4 for its S4 devices in the US, the above devices are not far away in getting the latest of the android experience .

While we wait for the update, a little brief on what all changes can be expected in 4.4 is written below :

  • “ Ok Google “ – While using the default launcher that comes with Kitkat , saying “Ok Google” will open up the voice search for you to voice what you need
  • Full screen album art – Once you play a song , pressing the home button after the screen is locked will show the currently playing album’s full screen size album art
  • Full screen mode – In the earlier versions , we always had notifications on the top be it while reading or watching movies but in 4.4 its full screen i.e it hides everything unless you really wish to see it by swiping down
  • Faster Multi tasking – removing unused apps running in the background or simultaneously browsing while typing a message (multi window) is a lot faster now due to Kitkat’s optimizing memory
  • Caller ID & Dial Screen – Better dial screen and display of the caller’s information if he/she is not in your contact book
  • Messaging – Now we have the option to make hangouts as the default messaging app rather than the messaging app that’s in built in all phones
  • Emoji – This is for the emoji lovers, Samsung stock keyboard users always found it tough to use emoji’s since the keyboard never had provision. Kitkat now wipes away the concern by getting in emoji
