Peter Andreas Thiel is an entrepreneur from America and venture capitalist who is the founder of PayPal – the international ecommerce site that allows transfer of funds through the web.
He was born in Germany but grew up in the United States, he is also a well known chess player who graduated from Stanford in 1989 with a major in philosophy he also owns a doctorate degree from Stanford law school in 1992.
During 1998 PayPal was found which was later sold to eBay for $1.5billion. After the PayPal venture Thiel cofounded the Clarium Capital which is an American investment management company.
It should be also notable that he was the first outsider to invest in Facebook he offered them $500,000 as angel investment for 10% stake in the company and he joined as a member in the Facebook board with that. He doesn’t stop there he is also a managing partner of the Founders fund which focuses only on angel investments and venture capital investments.
Apart from Facebook he has invested in a huge number of leading services like LinkedIn, Slide, Booktrack, Friendster, Yammer, Rapleaf, Yelp Inc., Geni.com, Practice Fusion, Vator, Metamed, Powerset, IronPort, Asana, Votizen, Caplinked, Big Think, Palantir Technologies, Quora, Stripe, Rypple and Legendary Entertainment.
His philosophy doesn’t stop with the degree at Stanford he also has a non profit organization called the Thiel Foundation which carries out philanthropic activities. Something that is interesting is that he has invested $3.5million in anti-aging research.
Thiel is also a teacher at Stanford University and has been awarded by the TechCrunch Crunchie award as the Venture Capitalist of the Year 2013. He also received the Herman Lay Award for Entrepreneurship. He is certainly a one awesome business man who handles a number of leading ventures.
