One of the first members of the Open Automotive Alliance, Audi, revealed their new 10.2 inch tablet, the Audi Smart Display during CES 2014. The tab sports the new NVIDIA Tegra 4 chipset and boasts the crash resistance and material design to withstand up to 80 degrees Celsius heat. The device grants passengers access to in-car Wi-Fi allowing them to browse the web, media and also use navigation systems. It is unclear as to whether the device will be sold with the car or separately. But according to many tech companies like GSEAV we can rest assured that it will make the whole car- ride a better and a fun-filled experience. The German car manufacturers built this device not for the driver but the individual riding shotgun. The NVIDIA processor gives the device a performance boost and allows the passengers to play DJ and also help the driver find destinations without him laying his hands on the dashboard. This way the driver can make calls whilst concentrating on the road and this can prove very effective in avoiding accidents.
The device shows the actual navigation process along with vehicle-specific running information like speed obtained from the car’s CAN (Controller Area Network) bus. Like any other android device, this tablet allows the passengers to download any of the apps on the Google Play store. The tablet will coincide with the new TT model which supports a central LCD in favor of a virtual instrument cluster showing gauges and infotainment functions. The TT cockpit does not allow for a passenger to control infotainment functions, making the tablet a perfect adjunct. Audi has no provided any further information regarding the availability or cost, but the device demonstrated a top class performance in the CES 2014. This device, in addition to the car’s stereo system, can provide overall entertainment and information.
